Appreciating Health and Care in AI Practitioner

We’re long-time subscribers to AI Practitioner magazine, and were delighted to be asked to contribute, following the successful launch last year of the book, Appreciating Health and Care.

Recognition is the hearts way of saying, I see you, and you matter.’”

~ Danielle Pierre

We always enjoy reading vibrant, practical examples of appreciative inquiry in action in the magazine and have also shared some favourites from the latest issue – and what we appreciate about them – here

Following the launch of Appreciating Health and Care, we decided to focus our feature on our work in health. Our article, Reflecting on our Journey: Sharing Appreciative Inquiry (AI) within the NHS, was a collaboration between Suzanne Quinney, Daniel Hodgkiss, Katy Fisher and Kayleigh Barnett, sharing a few of the ways they have used appreciative inquiry in their work in the NHS.

We focused on the examples of my three NHS colleagues, Daniel, Katy and Kayleigh, reflecting on how they applied appreciative inquiry in generative ways, resulting in our new book full of practical examples. And we talked about how it worked its magic within their own lives, too.

The NHS is one of the biggest employers in the world – some estimates put it as high as the sixth biggest, with approximately 1.5 million people working in hospitals, community services and central bodies. It’s a vital part of life in the UK and has been under a lot of pressure in recent years, so Appreciating People felt motivated to contribute and support staff within it. “It can be surprisingly hierarchical, so it has been rewarding to share such a peer- and strengths-based approach with those who are open to it,” says Suzanne.
